Tuffet FAQ
What is a tuffet?
A tuffet is a low upholstered footstool or seat. You can see samples in my gallery and my student gallery.
How can I make a tuffet?
The best option is to take a class. I teach classes in the southern Wisconsin area, but I'm happy to travel to teach at shops, guilds, or private groups.
Where do you teach tuffet classes?
Right now I teach in Madison, Mukwonago, Belleville, Reedsburg, and Ripon, Wisconsin.
Do you teach other classes as well?
Yes! Check out my classes page for information.
I can't take a class; what are my options?
You can buy a pattern from my online store. You can also take a class. There are TuffetSource affiliates in many states, and also in Australia!
I want to make a tuffet top, but I don't want to do the upholstery part.
Great news! I now offer finishing services!
I don't know how to sew but I want a tuffet!
I would be delighted to make you a tuffet!
Can I make a tuffet out of neckties?
Yes! And if you don't want to make it, I can make it for you!
Who wrote your pattern?
I use the TuffetSource pattern, written by Sharyn Cole. I attended a workshop in March, 2015 to learn the best methods for tuffet-making.
Store FAQ
I want to order a tuffet kit. What are differences between the kits?
A basic tuffet kit includes the wood base, t-nuts, furniture-grade upholstery foam, upholstery batting, a button form, and cording. Feet are not included, but you may choose them as a separate line item.
A tuffet kit with a pre-made form includes all of the above, but the form is put together. You will also receive the button and cording.
The complete tuffet kit includes all of the above plus the TuffetSource pattern, feet, a 12 inch Add-a-Quarter ruler, muslin for a foundation, and a 12 inch upholstery needle. All you need to provide is the fabric, your sewing machine and typical supplies, and an upholstery stapler.
Can I just buy feet?
Sure!
Does the pattern come with interfacing?
Yes! Each pattern includes instructions as well as interfacing for one tuffet.
I have already made one tuffet. If I buy another, do I have to buy the pattern?
Nope, you can just buy the printed interfacing.
So if I want to make two tuffets, but I don't have the Add a Quarter ruler and the 12 inch upholstery needle, what should I get?
Your best bet is to get one complete tuffet kit, one interfacing, and a second basic tuffet kit. You don't need two Add a Quarter rulers, for example.
Can I buy a kit without feet? I have a set from an old chair I'd like to use.
Sure. The kits that come with feet have an option for no feet. If you find later that the feet you have don't work, you can always purchase feet later.
I bought a kit from you several months ago and now I don't see the feet on your site!
My feet styles change all the time. If a particular foot style is unavailable from me, it's probably unavailable from my supplier. You can always contact me and I'll try to help you out. From time to time, if I only have one set of feet in a particular style available, I'll take them off the site.
Newsletter FAQ
How often do you send your newsletter? Will you clog up my inbox?
No way! I'll send out the newsletter roughly once a month, no more than 12 (or so) times a year.
Do you share my e-mail or other personal information with anyone?
Nope! Your e-mail and personal information will not be shared with anyone, for any reason!
What if I don't want information on everything you do?
Only sign up for the stuff you're interested in, and I won't bug you with the other stuff.
OK. That sounds good. Where do I sign up?
